How the ranking works: the most tasks done first; with the same number of tasks done, the most kills toward the current task; then whoever got there first, so nobody shares a place. Kill counts come from the game's last save of each character (about every 5 minutes while they play), so they can be a little behind. Your quest window (Alt+U) is always exact.
